Social Distortion Field

The Society of Illustrators virtual awards ceremony is coming up on March 18th at 5pm ET and I’m so very pleased that this project with illustrator Ryan Johnson is one of the winners in the Institutional category.

Topically the three pieces in this series touch on social media’s reality distortion field — particularly through the context of Instagram. While it’s possible to share a moment of time with others, we are each at the center of our experience, and our perception of that moment. But it’s the effect that perception and the truth or untruth has on us that bears the most consideration and concern. What we’re shown is only one part of the story. The real reality is not always the image we’re shown.

Update: As of April 29th, 2021, it’s also been recognized by the American Illustration awards as part of their 40th annual juried call for entries. Not bad for a project that came close to being killed off twice!
